About the project

Through BetterLife Renewable Pathways, we work on clean cooking in schools and refugee communities. Our biogas work is part of it.

BetterLife has supported more than 48 household biogas systems. Families turn organic waste into cleaner cooking energy, reducing smoke inside the home and dependence on firewood and charcoal.

The process also produces an organic by-product that can be returned to the soil. One household system therefore connects waste, energy, health and farming.

Alongside clean cooking, we work with schools and communities on waste separation, plastic banks, recycling and the responsible reuse of materials. Four school plastic banks give learners a practical way to understand waste and participate in keeping plastics out of the environment.

The programme also explores safe, locally appropriate ways of recovering value from materials that would otherwise be dumped or burnt.
