Welcome to BetterLife International

BetterLife International was born out of a simple but powerful conviction, that every person, no matter where they come from or what they have been through, deserves the chance to live with dignity, opportunity, and hope.

Our story began in 2021, when a group of young people many of whom had personally experienced displacement and hardship came together with one shared vision: to create lasting solutions for the challenges their communities were facing. From witnessing the struggles of refugee families, the effects of climate change on small farmers, and the lack of opportunities for young people, they knew that change could not wait.

What started as a youth-driven initiative in Uganda has now grown into a vibrant organization working across Uganda, South Sudan, Tanzania, Ghana, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. We remain youth-led at every level, guided by the energy, creativity, and determination of young people who refuse to accept poverty, inequality, or environmental destruction as the status quo.

Our Work across Sub-Sahara Africa

Uganda 🇺🇬

In Uganda, BetterLife International empowers both refugee and host communities through sustainable livelihoods and green skills. Our projects train young people and displaced families in poultry, carpentry, tailoring, and clean energy, helping them earn income and gain independence. We strengthen the capacity of refugees and IDPs through climate-smart agriculture, teaching organic farming and soil restoration to improve food security. Through Green Libraries and Eco Clubs, over 4,500 students engage in climate education and environmental leadership. From 2021–2023, we installed 48 biogas plants, 65 boreholes, and 20 Green Libraries, improving access to clean energy, water, and knowledge. By combining livelihoods, education, and community empowerment, we help families rebuild hope and resilience, showing that even in adversity, sustainable change is possible.

South Sudan 🇸🇸

In South Sudan, BetterLife International works with refugees and vulnerable communities to build resilient livelihoods and food security. Through the BetterLife Spring Project (Sustainable Powered Resilient Irrigation for Next Generation Farming), farmers access renewable energy-powered irrigation systems, enabling them to grow crops despite unpredictable weather. We also strengthen the capacity of refugees and IDPs through agriculture and vocational training, equipping them with skills to produce food, earn income, and become self-reliant. By combining climate-smart farming, renewable energy, and community support, we help families survive today while building hope for tomorrow. Our programs empower youth and women to lead, adapt, and create lasting impact even in fragile and conflict-affected areas.

Tanzania 🇹🇿

In Tanzania, BetterLife International partners with FADECO to empower communities through livelihood diversification, climate education, and green skills training. Together, we have reached over 30,000 people, providing agricultural training, youth entrepreneurship programs, and clean energy solutions. Our renewable energy projects include a wind turbine powering operations and biogas plants, reducing reliance on charcoal and firewood. Through FADECO’s radio station, we share information on climate, health, and livelihoods, strengthening community knowledge. We also train refugees and IDPs in agriculture and sustainable skills, helping families gain independence and food security. By combining practical skills, green technology, and climate awareness, we build resilient communities that can face challenges and thrive.

Ghana 🇬🇭

In Ghana, we focus on climate education and youth engagement. Through school programs, students learn environmental stewardship, tree planting, and waste management, equipping them to lead change in their communities. We also provide skills training in green livelihoods to vulnerable youth, including refugees and displaced families, helping them earn income while protecting the environment. Our programs emphasize practical solutions and leadership development, inspiring young people to take climate action in their schools and neighborhoods. By connecting education with empowerment, we help communities build a future that is sustainable, hopeful, and inclusive.

Democratic Republic of Congo 🇨🇩

In the DRC, BetterLife International works with refugees, IDPs, and vulnerable youth to provide humanitarian support and sustainable livelihoods. We strengthen capacity through agriculture, vocational training, and green skills, enabling families to produce food, earn income, and regain independence. Youth also participate in reforestation and peacebuilding activities, using environmental action to foster community cohesion. Our programs combine immediate support with long-term skills development, ensuring communities can thrive despite conflict and displacement. By empowering families and youth with practical knowledge and sustainable opportunities, we help transform vulnerability into resilience and hope.
